Lesson Learnt Amid Lockdown : Migrant Laborers
Of the total around 14 crore migrant workers in the country, over 50 % are in Mumbai and 40 % are in Delhi (Census, 2011). They build every home, offices, stores etc for powerful people nation wide. As per the statistics furnished by the state governments and Union territories in 3rd week of April 37,978 relief camps have already been set up by state governments and Union Territories and genuine NGOs. Nearly 14.3 lakh persons have been housed in these camps. In addition to the above, 26,225 food camps have also been opened giving food to nearly 1.34 crore persons,.Even. The Prime Mister of the Nation made an appeal to owners of the businesses not to throw the laborers. He also appealed to keep them, help them, provide them basic help so that they dont move back to their home towns. Event, after that thousands of migrant workers suffered. Now, this is the time to learn the lesson. Now this is the time to do self evaluation. Why could we not came together.
